Thousands of small bumps have the power to rule part of my day. “Give us chocolate,” my taste buds cry out, or “we want more dessert.” As I give in to their requests, I am satisfied. But, there are days when life feels so hectic that I don’t allow these power-mongrels the opportunity to savor what I feed them. My body receives the nourishment it needs, yet an important step is diminished.
So it is with my spiritual “eating.” There are days when I fully enjoy the feast my Savior provides me with, relishing eat bite. Other days, I ingest it so rapidly that I don’t even know what type of food I’m inhaling.
It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age, if they fall away, to be brought back to repentance, because to their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace.” Hebrews 6:4-6 (emphasis mine)
There is deep theology that is rich for debate nestled into these verses, but I want to hone in on the section in bold. Have you tasted the word of God? I’m not talking the quick-inhale eating. I’m referring to savoring and delighting in the goodness of the word of God.
Ahh, the word of God. It has the power to transform. Renew. Restore. Heal.
Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him.” Psalm 34:8

I appreciated your comments on Psalm 34:8. That scripture is so meaningful to me because of the freedom I now feel in Christ after my ten year journey from bondage to freedom. As I “taste” the scriptures I know I’m redeemed, He is restoring and rebuilding me and rewarding me with an abundant life all because His Word has become real to me. Thank you! God Bless you.
